We all know that life is not a bed of roses. Life has struggles, challenges, and ups and downs. When we make plans they might not always go like we want them to, Life has Struggles but … ; When we set out to do something we might not always succeed, Life has Struggles but … ; When we count on someone they might let us down, Life has Struggles but … ; Each time we do or try something and we don’t succeed, be persistent, keep on trying, we grow through challenges, and always remember that life has struggles but do not give up.
Do not give up when the skies are cloudy, do not give up when it is raining and muddy, and do not give up when it is dark and scary. Sometimes things could be hairy and it feels like nothing is working your way, every direction you turn to there are roadblocks and obstacles and there is no magic fairy to come and rescue you.
It is difficult to always control what happens to us but we can control how we respond to what happens to us. Challenges and struggles are meant to prepare us for better things in life, to stretch us, to make us grow and become better than our former selves. A knife has to undergo a lot of friction during sharpening for it to perform at its best. Iron has to undergo extreme heat to be able to be formed and shaped into different useful tools. A cake has to endure a hot oven to come out and dazzle us with its sweetness and splendor. A rainbow appears after the rain.
You should never give up. Don’t quit. Be a dreamer and dream big. Imagine. Stay positive and optimistic. Trust yourself that you can do it. Believe that you can do it. Visualize the finish line and keep trying again and again. Each time you try and fail, learn from your failure and mistakes. Critically reflect on and analyze where you went wrong and use this knowledge and insight to keep improving as you move forward and onward.
For inspiration, read about others who have made it despite facing limitations, struggles and hardships. By persisting and achieving you will inspire others to persist and achieve. Wouldn’t you want to make a positive mark on someone else’s life? Wouldn’t you want to inspire yourself and inspire others?
Words of Encouragement
One way to inspire yourself so that you don’t give up is by seeking out and surrounding yourself with other people who did not give up. Talk to them, learn their stories, learn their struggles, and tell them your story – if you want to.
These days you don’t even have to meet physically with other people; you could join an offline or online group of like-minded people in social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ etc. and identify a group or a forum for people with similar goals as yourself and encourage one another. You will likely find out that other people are facing more or less the same challenges that you are facing. You might even end up being the one who is actually encouraging others. By helping others we also help ourselves.
There is great joy and satisfaction in stretching out your hand to lift up someone else out of their struggles. It gives our lives more purpose and more depth and meaning. Deep down as humans we all crave for understanding, empathy, compassion and love. Even though it is not possible to help everyone, we should aim to do what we can, whenever we can. Sometimes all it takes is just to listen to someone without judging them and offer a kind word of encouragement.
Sincere words of encouragement can go a long way to uplift, recharge and reenergize yourself and others – these include simple words such as: “I hear you”, “I understand what you are saying”, “I understand what you are going through”, “It will be well”, “Do not be afraid”, “I am here for you”, “Take courage”, “You can do it”, “Believe in yourself”, “You can count on me”, “Don’t Give Up”, “How can I help?”, “Believe in your dreams”, “Taking it one step at a time will get you there”, “Small things done well lead to bigger things over time”, “Your challenges will help you to appreciate and value your successes”, “Don’t sell yourself short”, and “Hang in there”.
Other words of encouragement include: “I believe in you”, “You have the power within you to make it”, “I am rooting for you”, “I am your number one fan”, “I am your cheerleading team”, “Keep trying”, “Keep on going”, “We are in this together”, “Together we can make it through”, “Celebrate your little victories”, “You can lean on me”, “Never Give Up “, “You have what it takes to succeed”,
“You might be closer to achieving your dreams than you think”, “I’m your shoulder to cry on”, “It is ok to cry”, “Tomorrow will be a better and brighter day”, and so on.
An Attitude of Gratitude
Another way to ensure that you don’t give up despite life’s struggles is to always find something to be grateful for. An attitude of gratitude goes a long way in improving our outlook in life. Take time to reflect on all that we are thankful for. We are thankful for the fathers and mothers who work hard to provide for their children. Thankful for the Army who put their lives in harms way to protect our security.
Thankful for the firefighters who bravely plunge into burning buildings to save a life. Thankful for the Policemen and Policewomen who put their lives in danger to protect our lives. Thankful for the doctors and nurses who lovingly care for patients to restore health and save lives. Thankful for teachers who teach our children the value of education.
Thankful for employers who provide jobs to millions. Thankful to God for the gift of life. Thankful that every new day is a blessing. Thankful for our families and friends who have supported us and stood by our side. Please remember to always say “Thank You.”
Light Someone’s Candle
We don’t live in a perfect world. Life is hard. We are surrounded by struggles all around us; issues such as unemployment, poverty, hunger, diseases, illiteracy, accidents, epidemics, natural disasters, greed, murder, suicides, selfishness, homelessness etc.
Don’t block out these issues from your mind. We all have a responsibility to make the world a better place in whatever way we can. Your contribution could be big or small but it still counts. Just like we have our own dreams and aspirations, similarly others too have their dreams and we all face struggles, challenges and moments when we feel like giving up.
By investing in others we also invest in ourselves. In the circle of life, we all need each other as we work to achieve our dreams and our goals. You never know, the person that you help today could very well be the person who opens up doors or opportunities for you tomorrow or in the future.
Lighting another person’s candle does not dim your light. You could light someone’s candle by doing something as simple as referring someone for a job opportunity. You could teach someone something, or offer someone an encouraging word. You could give a compliment. You could refer a customer to a business. You can volunteer. You can smile. You can listen.
You can pray for yourself and for others. You could buy a coat for someone who is out in the cold or you could build a school or hospital if this is within your abilities. The bottom line is always stretch out your hand to lift someone up whenever you can and make a difference in the world in your own unique way. It starts with one person. Light someone’s candle.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Always remember that life has struggles but never give up. One person can make a difference in the world. You can inspire yourself, You can inspire others, You can encourage yourself, You can encourage others, You can cultivate an attitude of gratitude and you can also light someone else’s candle.
By lighting other people’s candles you create more light and the world becomes a brighter shinier place for all of us to work towards achieving our dreams despite the struggles and challenges that we might face. If there are two statements that you should remind yourself every day, those two statements should always be “I can do it” and “Never give up”.
